Ionic Order

Ionic order is classical order of architecture and decoration. The spiral shaped volute or scroll is characteristic of the capital. The Ionic column originated in the mid 6th century BC in Ionia, the southwestern coastland and islands of Asia Minor. The Romans proportioned the columns at 9 diameters high and the first temple that used these columns is known as the Temple of Hera which is no longer standing. A longer-lasting 6th century Ionic temple was called the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, which is one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

Hickory Designer offers Interior Design Services with knowledge and experience of all design styles. The ionic column is a great example of excellent architecture that is still admired and used today.
